CONTACT US

WHO ARE WE?

We are a group of ordinary folk of all ages who enjoy walking as a physical activity and for social contact. To us and millions of others worldwide, walking and volkssporting affords opportunities for adventure in active living, healthy recreation, fellowship and fun.

WHAT IS VOLKSSPORTING?

Literally, "Volkssporting" translates as "peoples sports". Volkssport events are non-competitive and without stress of speed or strains of endurance.
Volkssporters enjoy exercising at their pace and everyone feels like a winner. Volkssporting is international and may involve walking, bicycling, cross-country skiing and swimming.

VOLKSMARCHES

The walking events, called Volksmarches are by far the most popular activity.
A Volksmarch is an organized walk, held in all weather, along a route winding through selected scenic or historic areas. The walks are usually 10 kilometers long. Participants go at their own pace, but the events are non-competitive.
Volksmarching is good exercise and encourages outdoor physical activity by providing an opportunity where people of all ages and physical fitness can participate. Some routes are suitable for strollers, wheelchairs, and pets on leashes. Longer distances are offered occasionally.

WALK WITH US

Anyone can walk with us free-of-charge. Walkers are simply asked to register at the beginning of the walk so their achievement will be recorded.

AWARDS

Most Volkssporters, however, choose to experience the personal incentive and satisfaction available at a modest cost through the program of International Achievement Awards. The awards are based on an individual's record of the number of events they have completed and the distance in kilometers that they have walked (or biked or skied). Award books are stamped at each walk. Upon achieving the required levels, the books are forwarded to the Canadian Volkssport Federation who issue special pins, commemorative patches and certificates.
